Council Selections
The Kensington and Chelsea & Fulham CLPs are seeking candidates to stand for election to the Council of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea on the 3rd May 2018.
Many of Labour’s priorities can only be delivered through local action and Labour Councillors are the Party’s frontline link with residents, the voluntary and community sectors, and local businesses. Councils and Councillors these days are expected to be more outward-looking and to work more in partnership with local people and other stakeholders than ever before.
Consequently we are looking for dynamic, committed members who would welcome a challenge to stand for election to what will, under current arrangements, always be a Conservative-controlled Council. You will need strong experience of Party and community activities and campaigning, a commitment to Labour’s values and policies and the enthusiasm to be part of an effective team of Labour Councillors in Kensington and Chelsea. Our candidates and Councillors should be representative of our local community; we want to encourage everyone, especially women, young people and members of ethnic minorities, to come forward.
It does not matter if you don’t know much about how the Council works – we will provide training for potential candidates. Dedicated training sessions will be held at Kensington Town Hall on 7th/8th January if you are interested to find out more.
To apply to join the panel from which our candidates will be selected, you need to have had fully paid up membership of the Party at the correct rate since 8th December 2015 and be on the Borough’s Electoral Register. The closing date for application forms to be handed in is 20 January 2017. Interviews for the Panel List of potential candidates will take place on 28/29th January, with branches selecting candidates from the Panel in advance to Easter.
