Emma is standing to be re-elected as the Member of Parliament for Kensington on 12th December 2019.
In 2017, Emma became the first Labour MP for Kensington, winning the seat by 20 votes and overturning a Tory majority of over 7,000.
Before entering politics full-time Emma spent 30 years working as a journalist and researcher writing about design, architecture and planning. Emma has been a Councillor for Golborne Ward since 2008.
Four days after Emma’s election the Grenfell Tower fire atrocity changed everyone’s lives. Since then Emma has spent much of her time in parliament fighting for justice on behalf of Grenfell affected communities, survivors, the victims of Grenfell and the first responders.
As MP for Kensington Emma has served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Jon Trickett, Shadow Lord President of the Council and Shadow Minister for the Cabinet Office. Emma is also a member of the Socialist Campaign group and previously sat on the Work & Pensions Select Committee.
Emma is vice-chair of the following All-Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs); London; Planning and the Built Environment; Fire Safety and Rescue and the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, and sits on Leasehold Reform, Poverty, and Council Housing groups.
Emma campaigned for Remain in the 2016 referendum. In parliament, Emma continues to vote for a Second Referendum in which she will again campaign and vote to remain in the EU. Emma has also voted to rule out a No-Deal Brexit and revoke Article 50.
